The Spanish American Committee "Mi Casa" Housing Counseling Program

The Mi Casa Housing Counseling Program goals are to empower clients while building their confidence and to support them through their journey toward economic self-sufficiency as homeowners.

In operation for over 12 years, our housing program includes the following:

  • Pre-housing counseling where our clients are educated about housing options
  • Financial planning
  • Financial literacy sessions instructing our clients on how to earn, spend, and save towards their housing goals.

Our statistical success for 2016:

  • We helped a total of 300 financial literacy education participants of which 256 clients received one-on-one counseling in the areas of credit, savings, and budgeting to get ready to purchase a home, refinance or rehabilitate their home.
  • Out of 80 clients working toward home ownership, 39 clients became first time home buyers. Most of these clients were also able to lower their utility costs and/or pay off other debts.
  • 65 clients have been helped with loan modifications, repayment plans. With the help of our HUD certify counselor they were able to keep thier homes.

Our program helps to build economic strength of our families-read here for a client profile-Ms. N.
