Mission Statement
To serve as the Gateway to socioeconomic success for the entire Hispanic community.

This is accomplished by:
  • Offering programs related to employment, training, childcare, and support services
  • Making referrals to qualified partner agencies
  • Developing an information bank on Hispanic community needs and the resources available to meet those needs
  • Brokering services where gaps exist
  • Advocating for resources and recognition for the Hispanic community

Profile of Organization
Established in 1966, the Spanish American Committee is a response by the Hispanic community of Cleveland to take ownership of the key issues affecting our community, and to provide leadership in addressing the Hispanic community’s concerns. The Spanish American Committee offers social services, employment, housing, ESL, bilingual daycare, immigration services, translation/ interpreting, notarizations, credit counseling, education and employment discrimination counseling to the entire Hispanic Community.

For 35 years, The Spanish American Committee has provided essential programs and services to Cleveland’s Hispanic community. Currently, an average of 900 clients seek assistance through The Spanish American Committee each month. Last year alone, the Committee assisted over 10,000 individuals and their families. Many came to learn English or to obtain employment through The Spanish American Committee’s Employment Service Program. The Spanish American Committee is committed to provide quality programs and services that will help, not just the Hispanic community, but its surrounding communities as well.

With an annual budget just over $1 million, The Spanish American Committee is Cleveland’s oldest Hispanic human services organization and a beneficiary of United Way Services. Annually, over 10,000 clients are served. Thirty (30) full-time and part-time employees staff the agency. Over 90% of our staff is Hispanic and bilingual in English and Spanish.
